Option # 1 – Sear in the oven

  1. Bring the baking sheet to the lowest position and heat it to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Cut the onions in the desired way, dice with oil.
    Toast until tender and cut surfaces are golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
  3. Add your caramelizing product to the onions and continue frying until the mixture is the right consistency.

Option # 2 – Glaze in a pan to caramelise onions

  1. Just start adding the oil in a pan over low medium heat. You can choose between olive oil, rapeseed oil, or any other vegetable oil. Using sesame oil or soy sauce will also produce delicious results.
  2. As soon as the pan is warm enough, i.e. when the oil is also warm, carefully add the onions and cook them until they are lightly brown, but not too much!
  3. Add the desired amount of your caramelization option to the pan and cook the entire mixture, stirring constantly. It shouldn’t stick in the pan, but ultimately have the desired consistency.

Option # 3 – grill to caramelise onions

  1. Heat your outdoor grill to medium to high temperatures.
  2. Place a heavy pan on the grillage and let it get hot.
  3. Add 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pan.
  4. While the butter is melting, slice the onions.
  5. Place the onion slices in the melted butter and stir so that they’re all coated with butter and oil.
  6. Cook the onions until they soften and wilt.
  7. Turn the heat on your outdoor grill down to medium to low and continue cooking for about 10 minutes. Stir the onions occasionally.
  8. Sprinkle the caramelization option over the onions, stir, and continue cooking for 10 to 15 minutes. The onions are caramelized when they are deep, golden brown in color.
